Klaxons Opening for Bjork!

So i was just reminiscing with JOrtzzzstarrr* about how we went to see The Klaxons less than a year ago in the basement of Midway a few blocks from our apts...we almost didn't check them out but i had one lonely mp3 by them that i couldn't stop listening to. And now look at them...craziness! I have a feeling they might just snag themselves the Mercury Prize. Bjorks' pre-sale is already over-good luck on grabbing tickets during the regular sale this Friday!

Could pull off walking on stage and playing ONE note. Yes, you heard right, one note-C-sharp to be exact. It was their final day during their creative Canadian tour and they decided to start the day with a single note in St. John's. "Following shows on boats, buses, bridges and classrooms, Jack and Meg White took to the stage on George Street in St. John's and played a single note - reportedly a C-sharp - before announcing they have "now officially played in every province and territory in Canada" and leaving the stage. Hundreds of fans showed up for the last minute event, but were pre-warned that the show would be just one-note long. Later that evening, the band played a full-length set at Mile One Stadium in the city, the final show on their Canadian tour proper."NME

Arctic Monkeys announce mini-US Tour-Maps add Mercury Lounge Date

Including another stop in nYc...very exciting. Just off the announcement of their nomination for this year's Mercury Prize they will be returning to the states for a short while. Tickets for their show on September 5th with The Coral at Rumsey Playfield go on sale this Friday at Noon. As we have said before Arctic Monkeys put on quite a show, their albums are spectacularly solid and well...we are a bit crazy for them. Enjoy!

Decemberists and Grizzly Bear cast spell on Central Park Audience

With the weather being near perfect-Monday night was a great night to be at the Summerstage. Having to work till 7, I was only able to listen to the tail end of Grizzly Bear and I must say they sounded good. Their music blends quite well with the outdoors and gives one an overall eerie vibe (I think their latest album 'Yellow House' is one of the better albums of 2006 and when listened to with the lights off can give one some chills). As per The Decemberists, well, they were just what I wanted for a nice simmer evening outdoors in Central Park. Drawing not so heavily from their most recent release, 'Crane Wife', Colin and his crew of melody makers really had the audience enraptured. If there was one crowd that was not afraid to clap when the band said clap, it was this one. Everywhere you looked people were really enjoying the music and having a good time. Overall, The Decemberists gave the sold out audience just what they wanted and left everyone straight up feeling good. Although, I could say I was disappointed I did not get 13 Military Wives....what can I say, I love that song.

Vampire Weekend takes a bite out of L.A.

The news is hot after Vampire Weekend performed their first ever West Coast show last night to a sold out crowd at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. "The hotly tipped New York quartet thrilled the crowd at the ASCAP showcase with their unique brand of African-beat influenced party music. The band tore through tracks from their self-titled debut EP, including the lively ska-influenced single 'A-Punk' and 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa'. "This one is call and response," frontman Ezra Koenig said when introducing 'One (Blake's Got A New Face)'. "It's about our friend Blake and the whole thing is a tribute to Metallica," he quipped. The audience, which included members of Cold War Kids and Rilo Kiley, danced non-stop throughout the 45-minute set. "It felt good to see so many people here," said keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij ,"The good weather really affects people--they like to dance." (NME). Way to represent New York boys! Tickets are on sale now for their Brooklyn Music Hall show on September 8th. Also, speaking of Cold War Kids anyone else notice their song playing during the credits of last nights' 'Entourage' episode? First Rosewood Thieves now Cold War Kids-man would i love to pick out music for HBO shows!

Mercury Prize Nominees Announced

Wow...this is quite the list! Hopefully this will help to spread the love for Maps, Bat for Lashes, and New Young Pony Club on this side of the pond. There have been so many brilliant albums to come out of the UK this year, should make for an interesting outcome! The winner shall be announced in September during a reception at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

Digitalism

I meant to write a little bit about Digitalism before i left to go out of town for a few days wasn't able to get around to it. Bandmates Jence and IsiE mark Germany on the map with an album that could easily fall in line with recent Daft Punk albums exploring dance pop beats with aggressive force. The result is a collection of songs that has left me very excited for their October show out at Studio B. Digitalism has been receiving lots of love during their massive European tour finding a following with tecno and 'alterative' music fans alike. Whereas Justice has taken off so quickly within the states i find 'Idealism' to be a much more experimental and over all solid release.

Who doesn't Love a band with so many flashing pictures?! and somethign that resembles a Light Saber! NIFTY!

Heading out of the city

In four hours i will be in sweet sweet Maryland. Asking my dad permission to borrow the car, meeting friends out at Ramshead and eating crabs, waking up early to grab a milkshake at the Farmers Market, swimming all day tomorrow and playing with my pup in the afternoon. Kinda like i am back in high school all over again. So looking forward to it. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
