Goodmorning, Good Monday!

Many exciting things to report this day...many of them being exciting stories from Austin via Jaime. But first i thought i would let Adam Green welcome you into your week with news of his European tour carrying on quite successfully- as if you had any doubts.

Hi Everyone!
We've been getting a lot of emails from fans in cities where Adam's upcoming solo acoustic shows have sold out. Especially in Vienna, Paris and London. While we wish we could get everyone in, the venues won't let us squeeze in any more bodies! ;(
The good news, for those of you in London is, we've managed to scrounge up a few more tickets for Adam's show on Sept 25th at Union Chapel. These tickets went on sale on Saturday, so if you move quickly you've still got a chance to catch the show! Check with the venue to get tickets while you can!! And if you miss Adam on this tour, don't despair! When the new record comes out early next year, he'll back on the road with the full band touring through Europe and North America!

'Morning after Midnight'~new Adam Green Single! GO GET IT!

I try not to be a snobby music person who hates it when their artists blow up but i am still a bit shocked by the Kimya Dawson/Adam Green/Juno madness that has been happening as of late. I have been a Moldy Peaches fan for years. Loved the days of Adam dressing up in his weird costumes and colorful Kimya singing their special blend of cute little melodic songs with lyrics sprinkled with vulgarity and obscenity. They were like NOFX for the indie crowd. Maybe that is a bit of a stretch, but they were fantastic. I was estatic when i read that Kimya was going to be such a huge prescence on the soundtrack and knew that audiences would fall in love with her and Adam just as i have. Hopefully fans of the movie will do some homework and check out all that Kimya and Adam as solo artists have to offer. In addition hopefully record stores will now re-stock and sell Moldy Peaches albums! Now that would make me really happy! It has been highly enjoyable watching Adam grow as a singer-songwriter. With each album his voice becomes even stronger with a classical edge and fludity that not only showcases his maturity and ability but leaves his New York audience wishing he would play here more and stop going to Germany! (or maybe that is just me!) So today is not only new album release day, it is also "Morning After Midnight" day- Adam's latest single which you can now find on iTunes and his myspace page. Very exciting. Hopefully we will have some new dates for him soon, it has been way too long since his performance at Southpaw opening for Ben Kweller. We love you ADAM!!! Adam's latest and FIFTH solo record, Sixes and Sevens will be released via Rough Trade Records in Europe on March 7th and March 10th state side. March is looking pretty sweet...

There are some fantastic bands on this bill and ADAM is one of my favorite performers of all time- i absolutely L-o-V-e him. Definitely worth checking out. Ben Kweller's second night at Southpaw-a showcase of growth
I grew into loving Ben Kweller. It was a gentle, gradual process. 'On My Way' was the first of his albums that i went out and purchased. It was right after i had moved to the city, technically Brooklyn. I was residing in a tiny studio with a fireplace and a tub with claws. I was incredibly niave to the ways of the city and worked daily as a waitress on the Upper East Side serving tourists over priced organic baguettes, cafe lattes and pain chocolats. 'On My Way' was my soundtrack and my theme song. It was so beautifully painful yet full of love and light, like most of my early days in our lovely city. 'My Apartment' was my cheerup song for my train ride home, staring out the windows looking back into Manhattan. It was my 'wake-up' album that let me know i was actually living here, in this amazing city. Last night singing along to every single word i loved the album more than i ever had. It was if Ben too remembered his time surrounding the creation of his second effort, at one point pausing to say, 'i knew i liked this album.' Hearing my favorite verse off of the complete work gave me goosebumps:

"There's this kid you gotta meet. He lives across the street.
He's got spirit and heart. We're ten years apart.
He is up for anything. He can hang with anyone.
He still likes the things we used to think were fun.

Aw, mom, I never thought that I could have a friend
But tonight I'm on my way."

so beautifully written it filled up Southpaw and was the highlight of my night. Added enjoyment came from seeing 'On My Way' directly after 'Sha Sha' because i feel like i am only now discovering and loving Sha Sha completely. Tonight is his last album and his last show at Southpaw. I really have enjoyed seeing Ben perform in such a small space to true and loyal fans. Familar faces eagerly awaited his prescence on the stage and i am sure hearing his latest effort would be incredible. This most recent album showcases his progression and growth into a more mature sound stricken with blues influences and gritty guitar. Ben's lyrics have become more complex and long gone are the punk undertones and youthful lyrics off of 'Sha Sha.' Ben is an incredibly gifted lyricist and musician and i only hope that some more artists start to play these same kinds of showcases in the future. He encored with 'Until I Die', 'Harriet's Got A Song', and 'Red Eye.'

*On a sad note the audience was AWFUL to Adam Green. Whereas I understand that Adam is a special breed and not to be enjoyed by everyone, I was shocked at how overtly rude the crowd was to him. It is one thing to chat during an artist but the room was so loud that Adam had to ask for people to quiet down. It ended up being a performance that disintegrated into a frustrated Green, forgetting lyrics and making vulgar comments... It was not at all how i had hoped to see one of my favorite local artists received...or anyone performing for that matter. I never quite understood how audiences here haven't caught onto his albums, for he has always been one of my favorites. I hope he was able to enjoy singing his songs. His new material sounded fantastic and i am excited for a new album hopefully sometime soon. Sadly, there was no Kokomo match up which i have been waiting for since i downloaded their spicy version! LOVE IT!

Reporting in the Alphabet City via Adam Green

As if I really needed another reason to adore the fantastic being that is the Adam Green ...NME supplied me with an entertaining tale about a little bar in my neighborhood that recently opened and is operated by none other than 'singer' Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. Because i am such an avid fan of this band i of course was so excited to see that Adam is too! Enough to even trek over to the 'dive' bar where drinks cost a mere $10.00-$12.00 for a cocktail, what a bargin! Plus everyone has to love a bar with a jukebox equipped with the soundtrack to the best movie ever, "Snakes on A Plane." But I will leave the reporting up to Adam. "There were so many Ashlee Simpsons that it proved difficult to identify the real one. Outside on the smoking bench I watched the paparazzi snapping pictures of Tommy Hilfiger and a "blonde woman" leaving. Back inside and I figured out that Ashlee was the girl in the grey dress continually making trips to the bathroom with her Fall Out Boyfriend. Honestly, I hoped they were snorting rails because at least it would make for a good story. When my girlfriend bailed at 12:30, I felt the urge to do drugs with Ashlee Simpson and introduce myself. She gave me a kiss on the cheek and turned to Pete, who looked morose. I backed off and sat down with Jay-Z and his buddies. It was only 1am but the party was clearing out. Jay-Z was the last big shot to leave, he was shaking hands so I put mine up and he gave me a high-five...An OK bar, but let's face it, I'm too old to be snorting rails with Ashlee."

Adam Green (two) Tour Dates

Sigh, for some reason NYC does just not show Adam the love like the Germans do. Hence why he keeps going back for more. He will be headlining the Coca Cola Soundwave Discovery Tour which is a showcase for new bands to perform in front of larger sized audiences than they normally would. The two shows are coming up pretty soon:

Who's got the crack?

Lucky for us music and movie lovers this time of year gives us an abundance to look forward to. From soundtracks that include the talents of Eddie Vedder, Jim James, Antony and Cat Power. A little film out of the Fox Searchlight Studios by the name of Juno adds another heavy soundtrack to the list. Not only does it showcase the talents of my beloved and completely underrated Moldy Peaches and Kimya Dawson the cast includes two of my favorite people working today, Michael Cera and Ellen Page. Michael and Ellen both were members of two of my favorite television shows (Arrested Development and Freaks and Geeks) which sadly did not draw enough viewers at the time but have been revered and loved ever since. As the reviews trickle in for this little film the response has been nothing but affectionate and positive for these two young actors. We didn't expect any less. Written by Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking) the film opens nation-wide this Friday and has already been released in NYC and LA. The soundtrack hits shelves tomorrow and features all those listed below:

Meanwhile the other half of Moldy Peaches, Adam Green has released word of his upcoming album, Sixes & Sevens. His fifth solo album to date will be released via Rough Trade Records throughout Europe on March 7th, March 8th in the UK and March 18th here in the states. According to his website and myspace page Adam is hoping to hit up the festivals and is planning a UK tour, European Tour and US Tour all before June. Talk about a busy 2008.

Did anyone go to see Albie the other night?

Albert Hammond, Jr and company played their largest nYc show yet (unless you count when they opened for Bloc Party) on Monday night at Webster Hall. Openers, The Dead Trees are also under the trusty management of Sir Ryan Gentles. "Sticking to a set similar to his previous live shows, Hammond opened with 'Everyone Gets A Star' and played a series of songs from his debut ''Yours To Keep' as well as his familiar covers of Guided By Voices' 'Postal Blowfish' and Frank Black's 'Old Black Dawning'.Watched by a myriad of New York scenesters including Macaulay Culkin, Adam Green and James Iha, Hammond closed his show with the aforementioned unnamed new track, which showed a somewhat heavier side to his music." via NME Albert has been touring himself silly lately in support of his solo album, 'Yours To Keep.' "Hello Everyone!
Adam is playing a FREE show tonight in Stuttgart Germany! The venue is the LKA Longhorn (Heiligenwiesen 6)...so, if you're nearby...come by!! Adam goes on at 11pm, but the show is FREE so once the venue is full they will no longer let people in! My suggestion is to GET THERE EARLY!!!!

Rough Trade Music Store

When i started out in this industry i was a on more than a little intern at Rough Trade Records. I could not have been more excited to work for my favorite record label who at the time was home to Belle and Sebastian, Adam Green, The Kills, British Seapower, The Libertines, The Hidden Cameras, The Delays, The Viels, Gruff Rhys and many more bands which were and still are some of my favorite artists. It always made me jealous that their roster in the UK was more established and had it's own store. However, i could not have been more proud of my time with such an incredible company with the most lovely people you could ever wish to work for. So proud to see of them taking on such a big challenge. Best of luck loves!

Mark Ronson has three engagements planned for New York in July. Thankfully we know he has been here before otherwise one would worry that he would completely find New York City smelly, hot and downright disgusting...for that is what it turns into during the months of July and August. Jens Lekman on KEXP today

Most artists that I do not like off the album usually change my mind during a live performance, which I always consider to be a good thing. Better than having a band fall apart live and ruin your opinion of them, right? Everyone seems to be loving Jens Lekman, including Jaime- yet I have yet to spend enough time with his albums to feel the effect. He will be gracing KEXP with a set this afternoon at 12:40 PM (EST). After my first few listens of his new album it reminded me of a squeaky clean version of Adam Green, which again makes me wonder why America has yet to embrace him?!

Peter and the Wolf

This americana folk band reminds me of Adam Green with a mix of Peter, Paul and Mary, but i think everyone should check them out for themselves. They are playing Union Hall in May which should be a perfect room for this sort of sound. "The Apple Tree" is such a sweet little song with a very gentle melody that makes you wish that it was spring already. You can check out all of the many press reviews floating around via their myspace or through their record label, Whiskey and Apple Records.
