Does Andrew Bird likes Le Loup too...

My favorite new band of the year, Le Loup recently had the opportunity to open for Andrew Bird, which speaks volumes about their quality of their music. Not only are they a perfect paring to open for the talented Andrew, but i am throwing an educated guess out there that maybe he likes them as well? How could you not! Le Loup are playing various CMJ shows so check their website for updates as well as Bowery Ballroom next Wednesday, October 3rd.

Le Loup @ The Canal Room on Saturday Night

Saturday night was my first time venturing out to The Canal Room. The attraction was a band from Maryland that my co-worker raves about, Le Loup and it ended up being worth the trip. It is easy to make the comparison to Arcade Fire based on the number of people in the band- but the experience of their live show is quite different. For having only been together a short bit of time their performance was highly impressive. High energy with a steady set of songs that flow evenly into one another yet still remaining unique and controlled-which is quite the feat for a new band. I think it is too early to compare them to any band because i believe they will be filling their material with even grander plans and sounds sometime soon. The level of understanding between the band members and ability to be so comfortable in front of a New York audience was much appreciated by all in attendance. It was refreshing to see a group of people just enjoying sharing their music with a new city. Go to their myspace page and check out some positive Pitchfork reviews and tracks! And make sure to set aside September 7th for their show at Pianos where they will be playing with Jukebox the Ghost! Trust me!

The mysterious production of songs

In a recent piece written for the New York Times Andrew Bird takes us through the process of recording/conveying his emotions, worries and ideas at his friends' loft in Chicago,

In the studio, a number of things can conspire to turn the natural act of making music into an awkward dance. First there is no audience, no one to impress. Second is the temptation to be too careful, to isolate every sound and not let it mingle with other sounds.

Check the rest of the article out here if you will.

Austin City Limits-2007

Jaime enthusiastically kept me updated on his Austin City Limits adventures throughout the past weekend with text messages that made me increasingly vicously jealous. Whether it was enjoying Arcade Fire with a heavy crowd of +40,000 or excitedly sharing that Andrew Bird joined My Morning Jacket during their set...it all sounded fantastic. Very excited to catch some stories after he has some much needed sleep. (i am guessing!) I am most curious to hear how Muse was accepted in place of The White Stripes. Or how sick it must have been to experience Ghostland Observatory in their hometown. Hopefully he will post a bit in his own words as the week progresses. In the meantime you can check out an interview with Will Butler via Rocky Mountain News in preparation for Arcade Fire out at Randalls Island, which is only a few weeks away!

Take Away Shows via La Blogotheque, c'est super cool!

"The Take Away Shows are a Video Podcast produced by the french weblog La Blogothèque. Every week, we give away a session, shot with a band, in an unusual, urban environment. Sessions are always filmed as a unique shot, without any cut, recorded live. We usually haven’t much time to record them, so the groups have to be spontaneous, to improvise, play with what they have with them, and with their environment, whether there’s a public or not. The Take Away Shows are produced by La Blogothèque, based on an original idea by Chryde and Vincent Moon. They are directed by Vincent Moon, and supported by Kidam, who lends us the cameras and shot some of the sessions. Our partner for the english version is the wonderful american site Daytrotter, who gives away twice week incredible audio sessions from the bands they love. Go and check their site!

*Andrew Bird-strolling the streets of Montmartre-it is absolutely beautiful, and my personal favorite. Other artists available as well, Cold War Kids, Tapes n' Tapes, The National, Arcade Fire, The Kooks, Grizzly Bear...all worth checking out. Who would you most want to see!? A little Jack White perhaps...

1-2-3-4 Tell me that you Love me More

Last night marked my second time seeing Feist, the first time being at Webster Hall. And again she performed at the top of her game. Leslie 'Feist' has this ability to blend her gently soothing voice with straight up great guitar work and a band that does an excellent job backing her up. The songs off her latest album 'The Reminder' do a great job complimenting her hits off of 'Let It Die' and the two when put together create one heck of a show. The setlist, which focused mainly on her new material with select gems off of 'Let It Die.' A special addition was Kevin Drew joining her on keys for "Lover's Spit." She continued the show with a a cover of New York artist that has residency going but I am drawing a blank on the name and invited a fan on stage with great whislting skills so she could loop his whistling as intro to one of her songs. Taking a page from Andrew Bird are we? I think it is noteworthy to point out that Feist does all of her tuning herself and besides entering the stage and before the encore she does pretty much the whole show with no stage assistance....she is just an independent rocker that delivers a powerful performance.

*An fyi to anyone going tonite, she got on last night at 9:20.
