Le Loup @ The Canal Room on Saturday Night
Saturday night was my first time venturing out to The Canal Room. The attraction was a band from Maryland that my co-worker raves about, Le Loup and it ended up being worth the trip. It is easy to make the comparison to Arcade Fire based on the number of people in the band- but the experience of their live show is quite different. For having only been together a short bit of time their performance was highly impressive. High energy with a steady set of songs that flow evenly into one another yet still remaining unique and controlled-which is quite the feat for a new band. I think it is too early to compare them to any band because i believe they will be filling their material with even grander plans and sounds sometime soon. The level of understanding between the band members and ability to be so comfortable in front of a New York audience was much appreciated by all in attendance. It was refreshing to see a group of people just enjoying sharing their music with a new city. Go to their myspace page and check out some positive Pitchfork reviews and tracks! And make sure to set aside September 7th for their show at Pianos where they will be playing with Jukebox the Ghost! Trust me!
