BABYSHAMBLES!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is shaping up to be a pretty darn good day. I noticed that Simian Mobile Disco has been added to the KEXP in studio sessions during CMJ, there is a free Wes Anderson short for download on iTunes and well a shiny brand new leaked Babyshambles album. For all of you haters- stop reading here because i have always and will always be madly madly loving everything that is Pete Doherty. I firmly believe that he is one of the best poets and lyricists of my age. Furthermore despite his overwhelmingly public and sad drug addiction he continues to produce some of the best songs we have heard since The Clash or early Velvet Underground. That being said, i am not one for posting songs before the albums are released at all...but well, Pete, please forgive me. I couldn't help myself. Just bloody brilliant. Well done Babyshambles. Well done.

Sad day for Pete...

"Pete Doherty has told NME that as a result of his appearance in court today (August 7) he is now banned from London. The singer's sentencing for possession of class A drugs has been postponed for a month while he continues rehab. However one of the conditions set by West London Magistrates Court is that the Babyshambles man should stay with a family while he tries to quit drugs, and this has effectively left the singer homeless. "I can't stay with my mum, not while she's with my dad. I'm not quite sure where I'm staying," Doherty explained. "Are there any NME readers outside London who want to put me up?" Doherty added: "Babyshambles are going to have to decamp to the sticks for a while. "Meanwhile Babyshambles guitarist Mick Whitnall, who attended court with his bandmate today, added: "We didn't know what to expect so it's a bit of a relief." Despite the restrictions and rehab Doherty must now undertake, the court did give him permission to play the Festival Heineken Paredes de Coura in Portugal on August 12 and both legs of the V Festival on August 18 and 19." via NME Of all the bands i hope stick with it and clean up, Babyshambles is it. I completely stick by my word that Pete is one of the most talented songwriters out there. We wish you the best of luck.

Acoustic album care of Pete Doherty

The same day my NME arrived with all the news i could ever wish for of Pete and Carl is the same day that Pete announces he has finally completed a solo record that he hopes to release sometime this year. "I've got a song called 'Salome' which I haven't done with the band yet. I'm kind of saving it for the acoustic album, you know what I mean? You can't leave it lying around for too long." When pressed, the Babyshambles frontman said he was ready to go with the band's new record, the follow-up to 2005's 'Down In Albion'. "Well to be honest, I think it's pretty much done," he declared. "It's just now trying to convince the record company that everything doesn't need to be highly polished." Pete has been busy lately between his shows with Babyshambles and his shows with Libertines mate Carl as well as heading back into the studios to work on the upcoming Babyshambles album. Hopefully things will keep progressing as they have been for Pete, good times ahead!

Pete Doherty loves himself a good time

Via NME:"Babyshambles are the latest band to be confirmed for this year's Glastonbury Festival. Organiser Michael Eavis confirmed that his daughter - and fellow organiser - Emily had booked Pete Doherty's band for a surprisingly cheap fee. "I don't know if we're allowed to say this, but Emily has just done deal we're really proud of for Pete Doherty and Babyshambles, for £100!" Michael told NME.COM. "I must say I've never got a band for £100! I can't believe it, she's doing very well, isn't she? Absolute classic!" Emily later cleared up the deal's details, explaining that while Babyshambles will be receiving a usual fee, the £100 is to get Doherty to do an extra acoustic performance. As previously reported, the festival is being headlined by Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and The Who and takes place between June 22 and 24." Sigh...oh Pete, i wish you would sober up enough to play a date stateside.

Babyshambles and Amy Winehouse?

Could this be true?! The day my NME arrived with Pete and Carl happily hugging on the cover is the same day that brings news of a Babyshambles and Amy Winehouse collaboration in the mix. Really? This has been quite the week! The Tripwire reports that Babyshambles who are currently working on their sophomore album and are in negotiations to rope in Amy Winehouse and Shaun Ryder for a few tunes. All the members (sans Pete) stopped by XFM and said they had 35 songs already penned for the new record including "Delivery," "Little Heart Ache" and "Death Left Hands." Bassist Drew McConnell also spoke about Winehouse/Ryder collaborations saying, "She's a friend of ours. The Shaun Ryder one is in negotiation at the moment. Our people are talking to their people hopefully...we'll see what happens." Earlier today news appeared about Jay Z appreciating Miss. Winehouse's music as well.

From Libertines to Babyshambles to DJ?

I don't care what anyone else says, i adore Pete Doherty. Almost as much as NME who provided us with our latest update:
"Pete Doherty is set to DJ at Gatecrasher's Summer Soundsystem festival. The Babyshambles frontman is scheduled to spin records at Leeds' Lotherton Hall on May 27. The singer will headline the Teenage Kicks Arena, and will be joined by a host of indie guest DJs. Also playing records will be The Ordinary Boys' frontman Preston, Franz Ferdinand's Paul Thomson, Ross Millard and Jaff from The Futureheads, Belle & Sebastian and Shitdisco. The indie bands join a host of dance DJs, including Judge Jules and Timo Mass. See Gatecrasher.com for more information." Now this is something worth checking out.

Libertines to re-unite for Glastonbury?

"Following Pete Doherty and Carl Barat's first recording session in three years on Friday (June 15), there are now rumours the pair will play another gig together at Glastonbury this weekend. "Pete and Carl are still arguing about what songs they're going to perform," excitedly speculates the paper of the Glasto reunion, "but whatever they settle on, it'll be incredible."
Both Dirty Pretty Things and Babyshambles play the event and The Mirror suggests the two frontmen will also play a get together, the first since reuniting onstage in April at the Evening With Pete Doherty shows at Hackney Empire." Whether or not this is something that NME knows for sure or is just hoping for, it would be quite exciting. Quite exciting indeed. Especially since if they were ever to re-unite for a festival crowd it should be those rowdy folks at Glastonbury. I am pretty sure no other crowd could rival the massive amounts of love they would be shown.

Albie Interview

Thank you gothamist! "Albert Hammond Jr., Musician, Stroke
Six years ago, whether you are ready to believe it or not, The Strokes emerged from a lost and muddled New York music scene and gave a kick start to the current indie rock phenomenon that we are experiencing today. The backbone of their sound and style was the rapid fire rhythm guitar of Albert Hammond Jr. Fast forward to 2007 and all of the emerging talents from the beginning of the century are all growing up and branching out. Modest Mouse found a sound that got them the #1 album in the US this week. Jack White sold out clubs around the world with three guys not named Meg. And Al Hammond is now touring to support a pretty darn good solo album, finding a balance that maintains the Strokes edge while forging a sound completely his own.

Albert took the time to answer a few of our questions, as he got ready to open two shows in New York for Bloc Party and headline one of his own at Bowery Ballroom.

Chin up ladies- Pete Doherty to *Marry*

While NME has reported this story many a time before, it seems during last night's reunion show for the Libertines Pete proclaimed his love for his fiancee Kate Moss. "Playing 'What Katie Did' from The Libertines' second album, Doherty told the audience he was performing the song for Moss. 'On that note I'd like to dedicate this song to my beautiful fiancée,' he declared. Moss then joined the singer onstage, lending backing vocals to the Babyshambles track 'La Belle Et La Bête', before departing the stage, giving her boyfriend a one-fingered salute." Pete and Kate, best of luck, i love you no matter what.

Yeah Pete!

It seems that things are finally looking up for our lovely Pete Doherty. Last week news spread of a reunion gig with Libertines mate Carl Barat and his engagement his lady love Kate Moss. This week after an audience with a judge Pete was praised for his co-operation during his battle to beat his very public drug addiction. "The Babyshambles singer attended a review of a drug treatment order at Thames Magistrates' Court in east London today (April 18). He was ordered to take part in a treatment programme after admitting drug possession charges in April 2006. Although Doherty turned up 30 minutes late for the hearing, Judge Jane McIvor reassured him that there is no obligation for him to appear in person. The judge said: "The fact you've turned up shows co-operation - more than co-operation - and there is no risk of you breaching this order." Doherty assured the court: "I'm quite keen to show a negative test as soon as possible."

Glastonbury Festival Wrap-Up

Lily Allen
As previously posted, head over to NME for headlines about almost every band that played. Highlights included Arctic Monkeys, CSS, The Klaxons, Kate Nash, Arcade Fire, Amy Winehouse, Kasabian, Holy Fuck, The Long Blondes, The Kooks, The Kaiser Chiefs, Pigeon Detectives, Lily Allen, Bjork and Babyshambles. It was 'pissing rain' all throughout the festivities but that didn't seem to stop over 170,000 fans from turning out in pure concert fashion. It had been the first time Bjork performed at Glastonbury in 13 years. Jaime Reynolds of The Klaxons had a very emotional experience exclaiming, "I can genuinely say it is the happiest day of my life today playing to that many people. It made me feel happier than I have ever been and I never expected so many people to turn up. I could just see a sea of people as far as my bad eyesight could see."

The Klaxons
While "The Pigeon Detectives were pelted by lingerie during their set at Glastonbury today (June 23). Fans spilled out of the John Peel Stage for their debut performance at the festival. Before playing 'Stop Or Go' - singer Matt Bowman said: "On this next song people get carried away and throw lingerie on stage... Some people can't take a fucking joke and write nasty things about you - the lingerie thing is actually a joke." However, during the song a fan threw a piece of lingerie on stage leading Bowman to comment: "What a result! Is there anything else you want to throw up here other than a pink bra?" During their raucous set the crowd chanted, in reference to the band's home city, "Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!"

Pete and Carl- together again- Team Democracy Unite!

Britain loves to spread news about these two and lately it has all been positive, which makes it even better. Today is a local election day throughout Great Britain which has spurred Pete and Carl into action-lending support to the cause Love Music Hate Racism which urges fans to vote for any party other than the far right group in local elections. Via his band's website, Carl stated that "The BNP currently have 49 local council seats around the UK, and are standing over 750 candidates in the elections. Low turnout has often been a major factor in BNP local election wins, and sometimes just a handful of votes can make all the difference." Meanwhile Babyshambles' Drew McConnell said: "Voting can be as much about who we don't want elected as who we do...use your voice if only to drown out that of the BNP." Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Roll Deep, The Paddingtons and Mecca2Medina have also joined the campaign. So it would seem our country isn't the only one fighting back!

I made it through this year...

Even though at some points it was a wee bit hairy there. 2007 saw so much good music that i have literally been carrying around a list with me for the last two weeks and finally just decided to shove off and post it- even if i am still a bit weary of the order of things. There were SO many good albums and some of the ones left off are ones Jaime adores, so I made a list of picks he loved as well. I hope you all have been enjoying this festive holiday season with the ones you love and have been sharing~giving~ and writing lots of music with/for your friends and family. THANK YOU ALL for reading, taking songs, making comments, everything and anything for this blog. It was one of my New Years resolutions for the last year and it has brought me so much happiness. All of the bands i have written about hold a special place with me which is why i try to give them as much attention as i possibly can and you should too. I hope you all have a lovely safe, happy, healthy and MUSICAL NEW YEAR! So much love!
