Crystal Castles return

I have been stalking the Crystal Castles myspace page ever since i saw them as part of the Friction NYC show at the Mercury Lounge on March 26th. News hit today that they will be returning and playing at Studio B on June 19th with room around the date for them to play in Manhattan as well. Even though they are two incredibly different bands with two unique sounds i have been loving this band as much as i loved LCD Soundsystem around this time last year. Killer.

Crystal Castles insanity by the magically talented Bao Nguyen
Making a mixed tape or if you want to be FaNcy* and MOdErN...a mixed cd for someone is 50% about yourself and 50% about the recipient of your time and affection. At least that is how it usually is when i take the time to make someone a cd and hence why when i finally hand it over it is with much hesitation and embarrassment because it is a bit of me baring my soul. No joke. I spend hours putting together compilations thinking about how i hope someone notices the same specific lyric that captured my attention and admiration or if they will notice how awesome it is when that beat drops that makes me dance like there is no tomorrow. Music is terribly personal and sharing it is something you should do daily with those you love. Earlier this week my friend Ariel passed along the website Muxtape which posts compilations created by people who also test their skills at pasting together the perfect melodic set. So to head into your weekend here is a mini-set chocked full of some fun stuff to groove to. It is J'slicks' birthday celebration so i had to at least put something together for him! Metric playing Webster Hall with Crystal Castles!

My very first show at Webster Hall was Metric. Totally won over by Emily Haines showmanship i will definitely be returning to catch them as they swing through nYc on September 21st. Tickets go on sale this Friday via Ticketmaster at 12:00 PM EST. Extra exciting is their tourmates, fellow Canadians Crystal Castles. I love their music and they have provided me with some highly enjoyable summer dance mixes. Definitely a good pairing indeed.

Modest Mouse-Tonight at WMH Tickets on Sale At Noon

This is tough because i LOVE Modest Mouse. Have for ages...all throughout their grey days and into their glory days of opening for R.E.M. at MSG tonight. They are stellar live and their fans are some of the most fun people to hang out with of all the shows i have attended. They sing along, they don't push and they genuinely give back love towards the stage with every song. If it wasn't for CRYSTAL CASTLES being down the street at Studio B I would be there. I have a feeling both will be hitting the stage at the same time and well...Crystal Castles is like crack to my ears right now. If you do head out for Modest Mouse you should go early and see The Rosewood Thieves at Galapagos with Luke Temple. Tickets for Modest Mouse go on sale at Noon HERE.

Poor Emma, we feel bad for you, 'YES WE DID' and other happenings of '08: TOP ALBUMS OF THE YEAR (for me and eric)

First and foremost every good music listener has someone that they share everything with because loving something as much as i love music is never truly complete unless you share it with those who are always there for you. Most of my past music education over the few years has stemmed from Eric's knowledge of The Grateful Dead, The Band, Antony and the Johnsons, Bonnie Prince Billy and many more and this year I was finally able to give a little bit back. Along with his top picks he listed his top 11 shows of the year as well. Since we spent most of the year collectively ohhhh'ing and ahhhhh'ing over Bon Iver we once mentioned in passing conversation how we felt bad for poor Emma. As the rest of the world was delighting over sickening love songs by Mr. Emma, she was out there knowing all of this was written about her. And so, Emma this is for you. Here's to a happy and healthy 2009!!!

By now it is apparent that i am a HUGE fan of Crystal Castles as well as the homemade music video. Enjoy!

All the troubles in my mind they don't feel so bad

Thank you blog world! My discoveries led me to some of my favorite dance fests and tracks that i continuously revisit and lavish affection upon. Some of these bands you might recognize just a Little bit... LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, Crystal Castles, Simian Mobile Disco, Justice, Battles and Digitalism. I have been one very lucky little girl to have been able to see all of these bands perform their magic live and they definitely live up to the brilliance of their albums. Digitalism was by far one of my favorite discoveries. The french duo KILLED it at Studio B and i could not have been happier to find this treasure today amidst my blog hunting's. Love love love love it! Even with the lack of proper air conditioning it caused me to get up and take a break from work and do a little ditty. It was a sweaty scene, but it was totally worth it. See for yourself.

Micachu vs. Santogold

Always sweet to anything having to do with new talent out of England I very happily have taken a liking to Micachu. She has been receiving the type of buzz on her side of the pond that Santogold has been the recipient of here. The fresh-faced 21 year old not only snagged a place on Accidental Records roster but inspired and Matthew Herbert to take her under his well-accomplished wing. Her band, The Shapes will find fans for those who are stricken with the Crystal Castles/Fuck Buttons/No Age syndrome. For those of you who are truly musically talented it might impress you even further to know that she was one of only four young composers to be chosen by the London Philharmonic to compose a piece for a later performance/production and they have already performed a symphony she composed. Very impressive indeed. Her gentle voice might remind you of Emmy the Great and her songs are happy and upbeat enough for you to want to put them on your ipod straightaway. Keep an eye on this one!

The hours could not fly by fast enough for me today. EEKkss! I was one lucky bird and saw both The Rapture and Daft Punk last Friday in Chicago and watched the masses shimmy to the ground. No literally-just you wait. It was up there with seeing The Knife or Goldfrapp for the first time. They are just pure fun. I cannot wait! In the meantime i am trying to unload the piles of work surrounding my desk and keeping myself in the mood with dancey music. One of my favorites right now are the new M.I.A. track 'Jimmy' off of her upcoming release, Kala. She samples a traditional Indian song which i highly recommend you checking out. Digitalism, Datarock, Matt and Kim, Mylo, Out Hud, and Justice also are good quick fixes. Only 7 and half more hours people! You ready?!

Hadouken!

With The Klaxons, CSS, Spank Rock, Crystal Castles, and Jaime T all receiving loads of blogger praise lately it is time for Hadouken! to hit the scene as well. They have been splashed all over the pages of NME and definitely are starting to grow on me. They sound like a little bit of Dizzy Rascal mixed with the Klaxons mixed with the Rapture.
