The Final Chapter-SPOILERS- Don't read if you aren't Finished PLEASE!

So last night i finished my beloved Harry Potter series. Most of my friends have seen me devotedly lugging the book about to concerts during the last two weeks. It could not have come out at a worst time for i have had a show to go to almost every night for the last two weeks. I could be found hungrily reading about Harry, Ron and Hermione waiting for my train in the mornings, venturing out to see Ben Kweller, waiting for friends-anywhere and anytime i could find a free second. Last night i ran home from the Mercury Lounge to pack for Lollapalooza which i will be attending this weekend. Climbing into bed i made the decision to stay up and finish the book in private rather than in a crowded airport with my co-workers. I am very emotional when it comes to these books and almost always end up in tears during the last final pages. It started off as a magical world where wizards and witches learned about spells and magic yet slowly transforms into a sad story about a boy who loses all of his family as well as his most valued protector-everything yet his loyal friends. It was easy to become attached to the morality and lessons throughout each edition. J.K. cleverly leaves hints if you read carefully and closely. This book was no different and i couldnt stop crying for nearly the last four chapters. I am incredibly satisfied with the ending. J.K. Rowling is madly brilliant.
SPOILERS: All along i had assumed that Harry was one of the Horocrux's- since you never learn what the seventh one is and after you find out that both Harry and Lord Voldemort must die for Lord Voldemort to be defeated once and for all.

Some of the most enjoyable aspects of the final story was the character completion of Neville and Luna who became two of my favorite characters throughout the last few novels. You quickly learn not to under estimate Neville, even though he is clumsy with his spells and seems to be the wizard that everyone questions for his magical abilities. Neville truly proves himself as a hero as Harry storms out of the castle at the end to face Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. Catching onto what Harry is up to Neville states, 'We're all going to keep fighting, Harry. You know that?"

Luna is introduced to us in the fifth book as a looney girl who sees imaginary creatures and marches to her own tune. She never questions helping Harry and is always willing to put her life on the line. Wildly fearless she is kidnapped from Hogwarts by the Death Eaters and tortured for information on Dumbledores Army, yet never gives in. She is a strong female character who added a valuable feature to the stories.

You learn how Snape was madly in love with Harry's mom Lily and how he has gone above and beyond to protect Harry out of this love. Throughout the stories you question Snape and his goals. Is he still a Death Eater, did he kill Dumbledore? Did he give away Harry's whereabouts in the opening of the book? I think some of J.K. Rowlings strongest storytelling comes about after Severus is killed by Voldemort and gives Harry his thoughts to read so that Harry can truly understand how to defeat the Dark Lord. You learn Dumbeldore was flawed and not the perfect Headmaster and Protector that Harry had always believed. He made mistakes and sought ever lasting life through the treasures of the Deathly Hallows, which is where the book gains its' name.

Just like Star Wars it is a battle of good vs. evil, but with a happy ending-which might upset most people. How she weaves such a story full of such compassionate, clever and colorful characters is still amazing to me. The thing that is most refreshing about these books that are supposedly 'childrens books' is that they center on important lessons such as loyalty, compassion, forgiveness, and most importantly love. Dumbledore explains to Harry how he is TRULY a better man due to his love and loyalty to his friends by continuing his search for the Horocruxs and not the Hallows. The defeat of Voldemort is satisfying as we see his madness crippled by his ignorance and complete lack of understanding of humanity. "That which Voldemort does not value, he takes no trouble to comprehend. Of house-elves and children's tales, of love, loyalty and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing. Nothing. That they all have a power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth that he has never grasped." I hope everyone who is reading the books enjoys the ending. I thought it was perfect. "Do not pitty the dead, Harry. Pitty the living, and above all, those who live without love. By returning, you may ensure that fewer souls are maimed, fewer families are torn apart. If that seems to you a worthy goal, then we say good-bye for the present."

Harry Potter lures millions of Muggles

The fifth chapter of Harry Potter, Order of the Phoenix hit movie theatres world wide on Wednesday Morning at 12:00 AM. I saw people waiting in line when i was veturing out on my date with robots.

I was a bit sad because it was the first time i wasn't going to check out the latest Harry Potter flick at Midnight with all of my fellow Muggles. It appears that it still had quite the opening despite my absence. 12 million dollars to be exact. The Order of the Phoenix was such an amazing book and i sincerely hope the movie does it justice. With the likes of Helena Bonham Carter joining an already spledid cast i am sure it will. I am checking it out myself this weekend-so we shall see!

Harry Potter Day

"It is Ms. Rowling’s achievement in this series that she manages to make Harry both a familiar adolescent — coping with the banal frustrations of school and dating — and an epic hero, kin to everyone from the young King Arthur to Spider-Man and Luke Skywalker. This same magpie talent has enabled her to create a narrative that effortlessly mixes up allusions to Homer, Milton, Shakespeare and Kafka, with silly kid jokes about vomit-flavored candies, a narrative that fuses a plethora of genres (from the boarding-school novel to the detective story to the epic quest) into a story that could be Exhibit A in a Joseph Campbell survey of mythic archetypes. In doing so, J. K. Rowling has created a world as fully detailed as L. Frank Baum’s Oz or J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth, a world so minutely imagined in terms of its history and rituals and rules that it qualifies as an alternate universe, which may be one reason the “Potter” books have spawned such a passionate following and such fervent exegesis. With this volume, the reader realizes that small incidents and asides in earlier installments (hidden among a huge number of red herrings) create a breadcrumb trail of clues to the plot, that Ms. Rowling has fitted together the jigsaw-puzzle pieces of this long undertaking with Dickensian ingenuity and ardor. Objects and spells from earlier books — like the invisibility cloak, Polyjuice Potion, Dumbledore’s Pensieve and Sirius’s flying motorcycle — play important roles in this volume, and characters encountered before, like the house-elf Dobby and Mr. Ollivander the wandmaker, resurface, too." All of the numerous taunts i have recieved over the years about how these books are rubbish and how i am a dork for re-reading all of them before the release of a new book...so sad to see it all end. Especially since it is being released during a weekend and upcoming week full of shows to go see, leaving me little time for complete Potter indulgence. Recommend checking out the rest of the review here.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Makes missing these beautiful books a little bit easier to bear...but, it does look like they cast an ultra creepy young version of Voldemort which is why this trailer looks so good. Can't wait.

HAppy (Harry Potter/Siren) WeeksSends

"The way we're describing it is a fruity vodka with a spicy kick, which is a way you could describe the city of New Orleans. TIM MURPHY-a spokesman on Absolut New Orleans vodka, a new drink flavored with mango and black pepper. Its profits will be used to help re-build the city." Hmm...not so sure how i feel about this. Maybe if our f'in government took some responsibility for our own people than Absolut wouldn't need to lure us to have another excuse to drink. Enough said.

So i know my postings today have been *w-E-a-K* to say the least, but hey, i am super ansy and on edge for my Harry Potter! I am. i will completely admit it. My angelic sister offered to buy a copy at the Borders in Maryland to assure that i will get a copy of the poster they are giving away since i am guessing it will be mass madness in the city tonight. Still...very excited. Hope everyone has a good weekend. So many good shows going on. Please make it out to Siren Festival. If not Elvis Perkins and The Twilight Sad--think of the big beers and snazzy hipsters.

Sadly-wait extended for new Streets album

Feelin' a bit slaggish there Mike?
Those brits seem to be having a hard time with things lately-Amy Winehouse cancelling shows and spitting on fans-Beckham being sold to the US-Harry Potter being leaked on the internet and now Mike Skinner has exclaimed via his handy myspace page that The Streets has been pushed back another year. "Making an album when you're quite well known is a bit stressful, "I've had to accept this week that because my album isn't quite right yet it won't be coming out this year. I think I've got the makings of a great record, but I've been working so hard on it my head is spinning at the end of every day and when I wake up each morning the first thing I feel is panic. I've decided to try to get some distance from it while we do this Scotland tour, Get Loaded (In The Park) and Ibiza. This also means I'll maintain my tidy pattern of releasing an album in 2002, 2004, 2006 and, now, 2008." This album would be the followup to The Streets widely successful 2006 album, 'The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living.' Then again it is always better when your favorite artists don't feel rushed and forced into producing another album-take all of the time you need Mike.
