Radiohead-Tour 2008-Details Revealed

I just decided to post this whole bit because A. It is RADIOHEAD and B. well-it is Radiohead... So folks, thank lovely Lars Brandle reporting from Lo-town on behalf of Billboard magazine. Take it away lArS!

"Radiohead will embark on a rare international tour starting next spring, Billboard.com can reveal. Although details are still sketchy, expect the British alternative rock band to play multiple markets, in sizeable venues. "We plan to tour next year, starting in May through to probably the end of the year. With lots of holidays in that period," says Bryce Edge of Courtyard Management, the firm that manages the band. "At the moment we are talking with our agents in North America and for the rest of the world, trying to get a schedule which works for the band and works financially," he adds. An extended run will be a treat for dedicated fans who missed Radiohead's summer 2006 dates, which landed in a handful of European and north American markets. "They toured last summer almost for creative reasons, definitely not for financial reasons. And I think they quite enjoyed it," explains Edge. "The next set of touring will be slightly larger-scale venues." Frontman Thom Yorke is anything but a fan of international treks and, in the past, the singer has raised concerns over the effects of touring on climate change. "He likes to do shows, but the whole business of schlepping around the world is not top of his list of favorite things to do," adds Edge. "He really enjoys playing to the fans -- it's just the process of how to do that which is the pain in the neck (for Yorke). They're not road dogs. They never have been." Radiohead tore up the industry manual when they allowed fans to name their price to download its latest album, "In Rainbows," released Oct. 10. To date, representatives for the band have remained tight-lipped on the sales performance of the studio set. Edge downplayed as "exaggerated" reports that "In Rainbows" had shifted more than 1.2 million copies, but admitted the average price paid was "probably pretty close" to £4 ($8). "We haven't analyzed the data yet," he explains. "The servers are still functioning on delivering the records to people. When that calms down a bit, we will have a moment to analyze and drag the data off. " And he was philosophical on reports that the illegal platforms have delivered millions of units. "The fact of the matter is, as soon as a record goes into manufacture, or advance copies are released to the press, it goes onto BitTorrent," he says. "That is the fact. What we are dealing with is a situation that we always dealing with." A label deal has yet to be struck for the physical release of the album, a spokesperson for the band says."

The things people will believe

Not that i would have ever believed a rumor about Radiohead even thinking about joining the new record label being started by coffee mastermind Starbucks, but according to NME some people did. Radiohead have poured hot water on rumours that they are set to sign for Starbucks' record label Hear Music. Talk of the highly improbable pairing originated on the internet after someone from the band's representatives Courtyard Management was apparently seen meeting recently with representatives of the coffee giant in London, according to BBC6 Music. The management company has now issued the following statement denying any link-up. "Radiohead are currently in the studio working on their next record. They are not negotiating a new record deal with anyone, and will not even consider how to release their new music until the album is finished. "The rumour that they are about to sign with Starbucks is totally untrue." As reported previously, Hear Music announced Paul McCartney as their first signing last week." I mean seriously, we are talking about RADIOHEAD here, like they would join Starbucks! That would be like Kayne West doing a commerical for Walmart. C'est ridicule!

Thom Yorke lends support to Friends of the Earth

Cred
I have always considered Thom Yorke to be an intelligent and compassionate artist and therefore was not surprised to learn that he is an active supporter for Friends Of The Earth. Via a video message Yorke proclaimed, "Reminding my MP to remind Gordon Brown that he's committed to a bill to reduce our CO2 emissions double quick time. And if he doesn't we're going to come down on him like a ton of bricks." Thom will be joining Razorlight's Johnny Borrell, KT Tunstall, Badly Drawn Boy and The Holloways are amongst the other celebrities who are already part of the campaign. The campaign hopes to draw attention and support for a proposed climate change law with stricter regulations and more aggressive measures.

NEw Radiohead Song Sample

Of course after checking out The White Stripes news this morning the second bit of information that makes this girl happy is learning that Radiohead has indeed posted a short sample of a new song "15 Step" on their official website, deadairspace. Click on "HODIAU DIREKTION" and you shall be able to listen to the song to your heart's delight. Eagerly awaiting more news and hopefully more tour dates!

Lyrics have been posted at the fansite Ateaseweb.com :

How come I end up where I started
How come I end up where I went wrong
Won't take my eyes off the ball again
You reel me out when and you cut the string.

How come I end up where I started
How come I end up where I went wrong
Won't take my eyes off the ball again
You cut me in and reel the string

You used to be alright
What happened?
Did the cat get your tongue
Did your string come undone
One by one
One by one
Here it comes / ???
It is soft as your pillow

You used to be alright
What happened?
Etcetera Etcetera
Fetch for whatever
Fifteen steps
Then a sheer drop

How come i end up where i started?
How can i end up where i belong?
Won't take my eyes off the ball again
You reel me out when and you cut the string.

Muse @ MSG

Bright Lights-Muse plays Big Arena-MSG
I want to start off this review by saying that MUSE f'n rocked the roof off MSG tonight...and this is coming from a person that does not own a single Muse CD or for the most part know any of their music. What I do know, is my friend Sheryl swears by these guys and that was all I needed to know. Getting home at 7:30 from work I was still on the fence as to whether I should attend tonights show. At about 8:25, after hearing my friend got floor tickets for $30 each and knowing as long as I can get in the building I would be stubbed down, my decision was made to head to MSG. With hopes of getting $20 ticket seeming to not be too likely, 9:00 was approaching and some group that wanted $50 for their extra decided it would be best to take something than get nothing. Once in MSG I proceeded to be stubbed down and made was to section 7 for what a close to 2 hour non-stop rock rollercoaster. For those of you that know this band, you already know that Muse caters to an arena show and tonight they were playing what some would call "the world's most famous arena." Their sound is just huge and accompanied by an extreme- top notch light show. There are not many bands that make music like Muse do from the idea that they play from two extreme sides of the spectrum. Some of their songs could be considered soft rock-while other hits are absolute fist pumping, non-stop jumping up and down, seriously heavy guitar riff, bombs on the bass, and some pounding beats on the drums. Everyone in the audience sang practically every word and not as well as sported a sh*t eating grin on their face. As for all the doubters that thought the Bowery Presents was taking too much of a risk on this one, well, you were wrong....they knew just what they were doing and if MSG did not have a section 400, which was just not so crowded, this show would have practically been sold out.

As for all the people that hate on this band and compare them to Radiohead, what ARE you on?! So the lead singer, Matthew Bellamy sounds a bit like Thom Yorke, but his music sounds hardly anything like Radiohead. Tonight if there were any doubters on this band, I think they had to be converted since tonights show was simply outstanding!

The next coming...

It is officially October. I never thought I was going to survive September, but I made it. Now it is a new month. My most favorite of all months of the year, all shiny and fresh. Forget December. October is the new December. Speaking of things being new Justin Vernon's latest project has finally hit the masses and is receiving (are we really surprised) so much lovins you would think it was a new Radiohead record. Which led me to make a statement so daring and bold, or so simple and obvious that I had to write about it. It is early in his career to make such comparisons but I think Justin Vernon could possibly have the potential of being such an brilliant and bold musician, songwriter, visionary, force field that he could be the next *Thom Yorke.* Maybe I have been listening to both of their new projects back to back too much. Or maybe I have watched the video for "Island, IS" one too many times. Either way, Unmap is something to let slowly dissolve into each distinct and divine level of resolution until it has completely molded into an overall form of succinct and disturbingly exquisite record. For that is exactly what it is.

If You Were There, Beware

There are two sides of the fence with the Arctic Monkeys: You love em' or you think they make stupid generic pop music. As for me, I fall on the side of the fence that loves em'. Having first seen them at the Bowery Ballroom, I remember talking with Alex post show and being like, "this is the last time an ordinary guy like myself can just sit next to you without you being mobbed." There was something about them that night that when you left the Bowery, you knew these boys would be hitting it big time on this side of the pond. Low and behold they made it to Webster (which they f'n rocked) and then Roseland (which I was told rocked but was at Radiohead...sorry there few, if any bands i give up Radiohead for).

Then there was the question can these guys put out another album as solid as their debut and guess what-they did. 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' maintains the sounds of the previous release but puts the bands maturity on display, expanding their musical skills and range. As per live shows, last night marked the first time I have seen them since Webster and was stoked and curious, "Do these guys have what it takes to make Hammerstein rock as hard as the last two shows I saw from them?" And while I can't say the whole crowd was as rowdy as the past (no soccer chants), I can safely say, they did bring the heat and those that were into it loved it!

These guys are years ahead of bands their age and are so tight. They did a couple of tracks that really segued into one another excellently and overall, it just can't be said better, they are tight. It's obvious they practice and take their music seriously and that all comes across during their live show. If you have not seen them live, I beg you to as I think that is the fairest way to judge them. As productshopnyc.com points out, don't be shocked if they are headlining MSG soon.

Happy Radiohead Release Day!

Cred
The past week has been filled with news of Radiohead and their new album. Constantly outspoken and challenging Thom Yorke and company continue to evolve and push the music industry to new levels of extreme discomfort. Offering 'Rainbows' their latest release which was made available today through download through the bands' OWN website for whatever price you wish to pay for it is only just the beginning. It takes fierce belief in your music and your fans to be able to do something like this and well, us fans are incredibly grateful. From what i have heard 'Rainbows' is layers upon layers of shift shaping melodies, eerie loops and classic Thom Yorke sound. Fantastic. You can tune into KEXP who has been debuting tracks all morning. If you still haven't purchased your very own copy of the album you can stop by the Rainbows' website here.

Radiohead - Reckoner (Live at 93 Feet East)

How could we not post this. It was just ridiculously wonderful. I love that Radiohead played a real show (including new material and old), just for the fans, for free. Other bands with similar means and access should please take note- your fans will definitely show their appreciation. SO excited for their tour dates this summer...

20-10

As of this year this blog is three years old. THREE YEARS OLD. My first year I hit it out of the ballpark so to say. I wrote almost everyday. I was picked up and asked to write for my very favorite thing people in all of the music industry. My roommate would download songs she liked and we would dance around my apartment. Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture all toured that year. I discovered Basia Bulat, Ghostland Observatory, Midlake, Cold War Kids, Florence and the Machine, Lykke Li and I became...ahem, a 'critic.' My second year I got a real job and learned some real lessons and it was more difficult for me to write time-wise. Then it became more difficult for me to write on an emotional level. I have never had writers block. This is new to me. Like most bloggers I write like I talk and blogging is writing out into the void. If you can't writer for yourself, who can you write for? No one apparently. This year is a whole new story. I love music. I do. No matter how many people try to beat it out of me it is not going to happen. I am excited for this year. Some great things are about to happen, i just know it. And so, I will write. I will write and post as though I never have before. Like it is 2007 all over again. I promise. This is my first post. Mountain Man is a band from Vermont. Give them a second to work their way into your bloodstream. It is soothing and warm and delightful for fighting off the cold winter air. They will be at SXSW so keep your ears open. This video was filmed during a recent show in Greenpoint and I am so sad I missed it! Ray Concepcion has become one of my favorite new videographers to watch. His color palete is pleasing and reminds me of scratchy lithographs. Which is neat. Check out his vimeo here.

Details coming soon...

I am still kicking myself for not heading out to last years Sasquatch Festival with the best festival line up of 2007. (at least i think so...) So I am waiting and watching for details for this years events to unfold. You should as well. If they follow suit last year they hosted Arcade Fire, Bjork, Ghostland Observatory, Grizzly Bear and Neko Case just to name a few (of the ones i wanted to see the most!). I am wondering if Radiohead or R.E.M. will be the headliners this time around. I definitely would not miss that!

Poor Emma, we feel bad for you, 'YES WE DID' and other happenings of '08: TOP ALBUMS OF THE YEAR (for me and eric)

First and foremost every good music listener has someone that they share everything with because loving something as much as i love music is never truly complete unless you share it with those who are always there for you. Most of my past music education over the few years has stemmed from Eric's knowledge of The Grateful Dead, The Band, Antony and the Johnsons, Bonnie Prince Billy and many more and this year I was finally able to give a little bit back. Along with his top picks he listed his top 11 shows of the year as well. Since we spent most of the year collectively ohhhh'ing and ahhhhh'ing over Bon Iver we once mentioned in passing conversation how we felt bad for poor Emma. As the rest of the world was delighting over sickening love songs by Mr. Emma, she was out there knowing all of this was written about her. And so, Emma this is for you. Times they are a changing

"Mr. Obama’s triumph closed a 16-month primary campaign that broke records on several fronts: the number of voters who participated, the amount of money raised and spent and the sheer length of the fight. The campaign, infused by tensions over race and gender, provided unexpected twists to the end as Mr. Obama ultimately prevailed over Mrs. Clinton, who just a year ago appeared headed toward becoming the first female presidential nominee of a major party."-NY Times
