Alright, so for the most part i am labeled as only listening to 'indie bands who play songs that are three minutes long." But from time to time i like to slip out of the city and head back to Maryland. Run around barefoot chasing my dogs, bite on sweet blades of summer grass and take a dip in the South River. Oh yeah- Maryland IS the best. And even though these boys hail from Portland, Oregon they are definitely on their way towards conquering listeners everywhere. This band is my latest love affair. Like Great Lake Swimmers, Blitzen Trapper educates me about about a style of music i not explore enough. Some of their songs have melodies reminding me of The Beatles or the Kinks while others will clearly find a home with Greatful Dead fans and Yonder String Mountain listeners. I might be wrong making these assumptions, but that is what it did for me. Whatever it does for you, my dear reader, i suggest giving a listen, adding to your ipod and letting yourself go. Afterall, it is officially June and we could all use a little summer escape. Enjoy!
